Standard medical healthcare typically identifies a diagnosis from your symptoms and then treats that diagnosis and those symptoms, mostly using pharmaceutical interventions, known as “a pill for an ill”. In contrast, nutritional therapy, as its name suggests, uses food and lifestyle interventions to enable the body to optimise its own good health.
Over 2 millenia ago, Hippocrates presciently stated “All disease begins in the gut”. The digestive tract is the interface between the outer world and your inner world; what you eat impacts how your genes are expressed, how your intestinal bacteria perform, your absorption and synthesis of nutrients, your brain function and intestinal permeability.
My extensive training is in functional medicine. The aim of the functional medicine approach is to identify the root cause of a condition using your symptoms, life story, chemical markers and signs.
In addressing the underlying cause, this approach can impact not only the main symptoms, but also other often seemingly unrelated conditions or symptoms, whilst minimising the risk of the side-effects typically encountered with medication.
Basing my recommendations and advice on critical analysis of up-to-the-minute scientific evidence, laboratory testing, clinical experience and your health story, I use a systematic and holistic program to identify and support the root cause of your symptoms. I always explain the complex science behind your symptoms to you in lay terms, empowering you to make the dietary and lifestyle changes that support your health and wellbeing and help you towards your goals.
